A few years ago, I noticed that the chip guard was starting to crack on the rocker panels on my 87 GN. I was just under my car today, and noticed that the paint is starting to lift where the cracks are. I'm just wondering what paint I can use if I do this myself. I dont want to take my car to a body shop and have them screw anything up or get the interior dirty. My car only has 11,000 miles on it, so i am very careful. Would I be crazy to use something from a can or gloss black POR 15? Just looking for ideas. I dont have a paint gun.

I was thinking of using Eastwood's extreme chassis- gloss black- in the aresol can. What do you guy's think?

I think u need to ask around and find a professional body shop that u can trust. As far as getting the interior dirty, place some shop mats on the floors and plastic around the seats.

I think that it's better if u have a professional place do the work so that u wont be disappointed with messing with it yourself. I know that there is some stuff that body shops use to get the original rust protection strip on the bottom of the car.

Good luck.

:) Dupont makes a clear chip guard paint. I have used it. Attack the damaged areas carefully the paint black. Your local auto paint store should be able to mix a match. Us an aresol kit to apply the black paint. Finish with the chip guard. With everything masked off you should get the results you want. :) I would cover the entire car with a 10x20 cheep plastic painting drop cloth
