In another thread: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209696&referrerid=1527 I mentioned a chunk of metal I found in my oil pan. I do not know where it came from but if it is a bearing, there is not enough material for it to be even half of a bearing. But since I have not found any other donors for the material, I'm thinking it is either a piece of cam or rod bearing.

But, I would think the engine would be making all types of racket if it were a rod bearing and I would hear something if it were a cam bearing especially since it would have to be only a piece that somehow squeezed out.

In the first place

How would the rod bearing get out of the rod with the rod cap still on?
A cam bearing probably would not make a noise but a rod sure would !!

Mine went thud, thud, thud, thud, thud! Except it made that sound about 10 times a second. Mine never lost oil pressure completely and only could be heard with my head under the hood and revving it!

No rod knock like sound but I was thinking I might have a cam bearing problem and I do not know what that could sound like

it could be anything my buddy had a broke crank and had a little knock and still had good oil pressure, and it was not cracked it was broke in two.

If...

The oil cooler adapter is not removed, then, as mentioned B4, the line has to be jumped. Blocking the ports will cause the oil supply to return to the engine thru the bypass valve.
If the engine is equipped with a "turbo saver" and the lines are crossed....
Being the stock crank is cast, it could well be that the idea posted about the chunk of crank face, is pretty well correct.

Bottom line: Take the engine out, and do it right.
