Factory Turbo Short Block 25527476

What do you think this is worth?
I have a 3.8 turbo short block still in dealer plastic & Crate. This is a 100% new engine off GM's assembly line. It is a 109 block SG1 engine GM part # 25527476 it has been in its crate since bought I did remove it once awhile back to take some pictures and then placed back in the Factory wax paper and crate it has allways been kept inside a heated garage. I have original receipt from the dealer which I bought it from.

Thanks, Mike

Hi,

You can see the engine has a shelac coating on it that makes it look a little hazy.

Thanks, Mike

I have absolutely no idea what it would be worth but I'll start the bidding out at $850.00 :D

It would almost be ashame to put that shortblock in service.

Imagine what it will be worth in the future.

I'd think a collector would put a better value on it... save it for one of those guys.

Or trade it to me for one of my greasy old 454 longblocks. :D

Its worth a lot more than $850. Probably round $3k. Good luck

short block

a remaufactured short block is between 1,200.00-1,500.00.starting price for this brand new gm factory short block(at this day and age )should be between 2,500.00-4,500.00.more on the high side, price wise.hope this helps.
(maybe a musle car or buick museum might be interested, maybe general motors.)

Believe or not there are a lot more of those still sitting around today.I personally know where three are that I have napped on at a friends shop,It was the only clean to nap.Good Luck with the sale.Take Care,AL.

Short Block

Hi Al,

Thats Cool. You had to buy them while they were available.

Thanks, Mike

I believe a more realistic value would be between $1500 and $2500- you could build avery stout shortblock for $4500.

WoW

This is Rare and would be great for a rebuild worth over $4000 I start the biding at $3500!

Like I said, I have absolutely no idea what it would be worth but with the number of 3.8's out there, why would this be worth 4 grand? Is it worth 4 grand to keep it in the crate and never to be used? I could understand if this was a experimental block like the 455 code x but its not. Just trying to understand the theory behind the high dollars...

Nice first post

Its only going to be worth what someone is willing to pay.

I have a buddy here in town who kept one in his closet for 15 years. Once his original motor went south, he used one of those shortblocks from GM.

It lasted less than 15,000 miles and when it was removed, the machine shop had to bore it .010 over and new pistons had to be purchased.

I am not saying that will be the future of your motor, just my buddies experience.

I would sit on it for 10 more years, hopefully the GNs and TTAs will be bringing in more money then, and the parts will be worth alot more in the future.

Those cars values have gone up quite a bit in the past few years anyway.

I bought 2 of the same shortblocks back around '91 & gave $1500 for each of them. They're still in the factory crates too & I doubt they'll ever see any use. Good luck with the sale.

The reason behind the high price is well.... virgin parts are still virgin parts, and after gm sold more of its inventory to the oil companies for testing there isnt alot left. As the racing scene grenades more and more blocks prices cant help but go up, and there is a difference to someone who is looking for a correct factory spec car. Rebuilding with heavy duty hard parts isnt for everyone, to the right person this engine would be worth $$$ - if you need to sell I'd drop an ad in hemmings motor news....

While we are discussing "Whatzit Worth"

I need to know what are front fender inner plastic fenderwells worth in nice condition? I live in Winnipeg, MB and there are not many of these old cars left in the junkyards. These are from a 1987 GN that I own and I have been asked to sell them. The car is a very rough one owner local car with 106000 KKMS or approx. 65000 miles. It's hard to know what something is worth when you have never parted a car like out. It has a clean title, doesn't run (fuel pump is shot). I paid $3400 for the car as it was, so it would be nice to see some reasonable cash for the parts. Thanks.
