I just purchased an Optima Red Top Battery part no. 75/35 and it is to short for the battery clamp to hold it in place! What part no. do I need to fit our cars? Is it the Optima 34/78???

You need a modified battery clamp.

Used an aluminum block spacer, well actually 2 of them one front one rear.

Spray painted black too.

JB Weld them to the battery and the plastic clamp will hold the battery in place if they are tall enough.

Got me by tech. on raceday. :D

So no optima model battery fits perfect??? Those of you that do have an optima, what did you have to do to get it to fit besides what salvageV6 said ?

I've got a yellow top Optima and had to put a spacer below it to make it fit snug. I had a shop install it so I don't know exactly what they used as a spacer for it..

1/2" of material. Plastic, metal, good wood. Whatever just paint it black.

Take a look at the bracket you can see where it will fit easily and look factory. :)

Any one been running one for a period of time? My experience has been that they don't last a long time contrary to the ad claims. :)

Almost 4 years now for my yellowtop.

Just put a Redtop in the GN.

Already longer than 3 Sears Die Hard Golds that I finally gave up on. Longest they lasted was a bit over 3 years for one of them.

Warranty issues still cost me too much money. ;)

I like the Optimas even in the cold Northeast.

Seems to be charging a bit higher voltage lately might be nearing the end of the road. So far it's a homerun.

Works well with the stereo too.

ok, on the website it says I need a height adapter tray...mine didn't come with one...so I guess that is the problem.

We had three and none lasted more than a year....could have been something causing the problems altho they were on different cars...On the other hand, I don't think I ever had a DieHard that lasted a year, either.

The Optima style battery sure seems to be the thing for those of us that don't drive our cars frequently.
Wish I had seen better results.

Optima battery gets over charged very easily (lead acid leaking on the ground side vents). Like what Steve mentioned that it sure seems to be the thing for those of us that don't drive our cars frequently.

If you're drawing more current thats needed then go with the Optima. I had really good results with the Yellow top and seems to last longer and don't seem to get over charged easily, but then I use then in G-bodys when Stereo system in installed drawing alot of current.

And for the fitting I use wood (I think it was a 1" thick) and placed it under the battery bracket.

Wish someone could make a nice aluminum powdercoated battery tie down.

Prolly be a zillionaire vendor in no time. :)

I drive mine everyday but since it's a spiral core paste type acid never looked for anything leaking on mine.

I shall check the vents to see if they are oozing.

Guys I just found something that might help alleviate some of your battery problems. I have had my battery for 2 1/2 years and it is starting to get a little weak. I looked around and found a solar battery maintenance device called Solargizer. Just bought one off Ebay for 25 bucks! They retail for 150. Installed it today so I'll let you know if my car blows up or something. :D

Anyway, it is rumored to help with sulfation and internal discharge. Check it out : http://www.pulsetech.com

I have had them in 3 different cars. All of them have been red tops
First one was installed in my 86 Mustang in 1996. It lasted until earlier this year and that was after being run dead MANY times.
Second one is the one in my GN that I installed in 2000. I have run it dead a few times and it too has come back with no problems.
Third one is in our Monte SS. I had that in another Mustang over a year ago. Then had it on the shelf. I trickled charged it occasionally. Dad has no complaints with it thus far. They start great in cold weather and dont corrode cables and frame rails.
I got a lot of my buddies hooked on them as well.
