Well I have to say my wife controls the money in my house hold. I look back and think if it wasn't for her, I'd have major debt problems sometimes.

I'm happy to report, I don't.

Thanks Honey! :)

Raymond,

your wife read the board? thats sweet of you to admit to that.

did u get in trouble?
:)

i am single so i budget my self and i have 0 debt to speak of and decent credit so i am not worried.

i know my mom handles most of the bills in the family when it comes to my parents. they dont have much debt just the normal stuff car(s) house etc.

We conflict on this issue....I spend $700 on tires for the GN and she doesn't understand that it's an investment......and then she goes out and blows like $80 a week on groceries and I'm like, "What, do you think money grows on f***ing trees?"

I have two nice cars, a house, and money in the bank because of my wife. If it wasn't for her, I'd drive a Stage II 8sec GN and be forced to live in it. She keeps me in check. :p

Grim Reaper - Na getting in to trouble wasn't the case at all. It's just I always try to put the family first in everything and it pay's off in the long run.

All the mods I have done to my car so far was by money I earned on the side. This is just an agreement we both made when we got married 4 years ago, works very well. Otherwise, she and the kid'os gets my pay checks each month. But, if there something I absolutly have to have right now, she'll give me the money for it. She one cool mamma!

DECPTCN - I agree with you on that one too:D

Wife takes care of everything, I haven't cashed a check in 3yrs, all direct deposite and just live off the credit card and some spare change for lunches.
I have "side jobs" which the money made from that is all mine to spend on whatever I want (3 turbo cars) guess where it allllll goes  :D

LOL! Sounds like you have a good lady there, I also hope one day to have an 8 sec TType/GN. In time I guess, in time.....

Raymond my friend... you are asking for trouble. Neither person in a marriage should control all the finances and budgeting. It something that you both have to keep an eye on. I have had several friends get into real jams by letting their wives contol the finances unsupervised. Let me share a couple. At my work one summer the company got into a jam and needed us to put in some insane hours which they were prepared to pay us very well for. One friend of mine was stoked because he made a ton of money that summer and thought he would have alot in savings. His wife paid the bills and took care of things and he trusted her. She has a degree in accounting, so hell, who wouldn't. Anyway the busy work let up and he was hunting around in a closet for something when he came across a paper sack. At first he thought it was trash because it just looked like a bunch of papers but he took the time to pick one up and it was a notice that his property taxes hadn't been paid in about 3 years. It was a final notice and they were getting ready to take his frickin house. Well he took a might interest in that sack and started digging through it and adding stuff up. He was in the hole for about 30grand and there were some pretty pissed off people. His wife was just putting stuff in the sack and not telling him about it. Here he busted his ass all summer to get ahead and found out he's 30g's in the hole. Anyway he busted A for the next year to get them out of trouble and has learned his lesson. I have no less than 5 friends I can name that pretty much the same scenario has happened to them. Its a real shock to find out that the house you thought was paid off has a mortgage and several equity loans against it that you never knew about. So fellas let this be a warning call. Take care of your business. To you people that say Oh.. I trust my mate with the finances. Thats what every one of my buddies thought too. One wife took out an 8000 dollar loan in her husbands name to bail one of her girlfriends out of a jam. Girl never paid the loan back and one day about a year later hubby gets ahold of a bank letter regarding it. Whewwww talk about fireworks. I can go on and on but I'm sure you guys get the point.;)

I agree with ya! Beleive me, I always have one eye open;) But I trust my wife, and what ever happens, happens....well to a point.

Otherwise, I have a hard enough time encouraging her to go out and spend money. She just loves saving money, and always looks to the future of things, which is a good thing I guess.

Ha! Ha! Just the other day she tried to give me $20 to go watch The Passion of Christ.... I said are you nutzzzz, I rather go drag racing with that money.....

No offence to whome ever, but I went to a Great Passion Play in Arkansas when I was 10 years old and I remember it like it was yeasterday :) But still, I'd rather be drag racing.

Wife controlled most of it in the beginning(engaged). After the wedding was paid off I took over the bills. Now we just bought our first home and she has the seperate checking for the house account only. I cover everything else. Look at it this way if you were to have an accident(Buick fell on you while pulling out a tranny :D JK!) I know many people where women don't know how to use the checkbook. Some think if there is a check in there they have the cash to cover it! Why else would the checks be in there then

Equal partnership and nobody gets hassled for what they spend.

Geez what a coincedence. Just talked to a buddy thats about 60k in the hole. Built his own house himself and paid as he went. Now he's gonna have to take out a home equity loan to consolidate all the debt his wife has run up. She was playing the credit swap game, paying one bill with credit and then that with credit etc. etc. Five years later the music has stopped and she confessed to him their jam. Typical guy who wanted nothing to do with money matters and dumped them on his wife. Wanted a divorce till he was convinced it was his own damn fault for not keeping up with his business. Glad to hear you keep and eye on things Raymond. Its good you trust your wife and its good she's a saver. Thats getting rare these days. Sometimes the finacial matters get stressfull for one and instead of coming clean and risking an argument with the other about spending they start borrowing on the sly to keep things floating. Small problem becomes a big one and finally they have no choice but to fess up or they get caught. As far as 20 for that flick, you made the right choice from what I hear. LOL

We do it together for the most part. Deduct everything at the first of the month, even if it's autodraft later in the month. That way no worries. About the only way we keep things straight. We're good about keeping up together and neither of us goes spending without mentioning it first so we both keep an idea of where we're at. Nice, smart & pretty low maintenance wife that deserves a lot more than she'll accept being given.

:kinda choked up:

We've both been divorced and learned our lessons so we decided to keep our money seperate. We only share some house and food expenses plus things we decided to buy together. Since I make quite a bit more I treat her often which she appreciates. She treats me when she can.

We chat about what we want to buy and listen to each others opinions but the ultimate decision is our own. Only rules we have is don't gain any debt you can't quickly handle (pay cash and plan a way to pay yourself back) and keep saving plans in check. We have our full financial information in a spreadsheet that we both share with each other often.

Chad... are you married to this women or just living together. Just sounds weird to me a married couple trying to decide who will pay for dinner. Sounds like your more roommates than married but if it works and your happy with it, thats great.

Lots of good insight and suggestions are being made here.

I think in the long term, unless your already a millionair or something, don't take things for granted in regards to buying things you don't absolutly have to have and getting furthur into debt.

God know's, we all know how the credit card industry goes, they want you to go into debt, so you can spend years trying to pay it off.

Before I meet my wife, I use to think, well I have the rest of my life to pay my debt off. Big mistake! Nothing but another stress issue I have to worry about. The best thing I ever did was tear up that credit card, I only keep one now and that's only for emergency.

GN One Day - Sounds like you have a good wife there, I couldn't have said it any better about my wife:) As she does deserve a lot more than she accepts.....

Mr URL - I've herd of this being done before, some people have been together before time and their very happy not being married. I guess this is one way to do it, if it works and both parties are truly happy with it..

What Steve says.:D The people at Home Shopping Network know my wife by her first name. Where do you think the money I make from my part time business goes?

She has been unemployed since November and has been getting too used to the stay-at-home Mom thing. BTW, my son is in school all day so it isn't like she is home taking care of an infant. She did take a real estate course but couldn't pass one section of the exam to save her life and gave up after 7 tries. Well, 3 unemployment checks left and it is all in my lap. ..................aw, I better shut up.
