found another good deal on some metal, this time its 14 gauge aluminized steel. Thinking it would make for decent exhaust piping, but Im not sure if this steel could hold up to our EGT's. What's the verdict metal experts; Is 14 gauge aluminized steel good for exhaust, or should it be used for intercooler piping? Or none of the above and 14 gauge aluminized steel is not high enough quality for decents intercooler pipes or an exhaust.

304, 409 stainless would work just fine. But im not too sure about the 14 gauge aluminized steel, thanks again.

dont they use aluminized steel for regular exahust pipes?? I think so. I woudnt use it for a down pipe, it will rust, pretty sure.

I'm running 16 gauge aluminized steel for a down pipe,it is coated in Turbo Black. No cracks or anything yet,has a whole season on it.
I have before and after coating pictures.

wow a whole season of racing? BTW it looks EXACTLY like wat I was picturing, in terms of color paint. Looks great man! Is that a V band connection down a few feet from the turbo dp? NICE work. Wait a mintue, is that painted high temp valve covers too, man thats cool!

I wonder if 1800 temp Aluminum Space age paint would not chip off for our 11-10second cars that are driven on the street and long trips more then the track. Afforadable BILL HIRSCH high temperature Automotive paint from CLM Enterprises.

I can't tell if your being sarcastic? It's actually a ceramic coating not paint.
Moore Power Coatings, header coatings, exhaust system coatings, exhaust header coating

Moore Power Coatings offers the very serious racer or any other extreme heat application these two coatings, for a 2000 degrees f. coating that offers the best insulating value of any coatings we offer. Both of these coatings provide a satin black finish and over 2000 hours salt spray protection. For turbochargers and turbo manifolds, the combination of reduced underhood temperature and turbo heat retention can't be beat.

The valve covers are powder coated.Almost a cast greay color

Nope wasn't being sarcastic I just thought that was a home paint job, sence the pipe looked custom, my bad.

I think it looks awsome! I like it alot.

It's Ok,thats why i asked and didn't jump to a conclusion.Hard to tell emotions through a computer.

I have built a few down pipes in my time out of aluminized steel, and it works GREAT! But remember it won't last nearly as long as stainless. It WILL last many years though! Do NOT thermal wrap mild steel, or it'll turn to flaky rust very fast. Nothing wrong with aluminized mild steel, especially 14 ga. What ever material you use for headers WILL crack! Even 321 stainless will eventually crack. We use to have our inconel exhaust stacks (header pipes) develop cracks all the time on this engine, and they were only about 8" long! :
