When converting a regular Regal....

This might make some of you sick, but this is the progress on the dismantling work on the T-type. As you can see I had to cut the whole front half of the frame off to remove the motor. BTw, that's my brother Joe Kelsch helping me out removing the 8.5, you've probably seen him at the BPG Nats and BG......

You will want to swap the dash harness and the harness that goes from the fuse box to the taillight harness also. Unless of course, you go to Casper's, and buy a standalone enginge/computer harness. But, that is an added expense, and since you have the original harness, you'll save money to swap it in.

To be correct, you will want to change the heater box,
What is the difference between an NA heater box and turbo heater box. Mine seem to be the same on my T-type and 84 4-door NA. Of course the NA car doesn't have a heat shield, but a lot of guys don't use them anyway.

I found the turbo heater box has a built in heat shield to protect it from the down pipe.

;) Thanks for clarifying that for me. Brian everytime I run into you I get plenty of good info! Its time for me to head to the shop and drop out that 7.5 today. These rearends sometimes may take a few extra hours if they've never been out of a car before.......

TJ,
I believe the turbo heater box is about 2 inches shorter than the NA one. At least it was on my 82 wagon.

Rat,
No problem, just remember the driveshafts are different too. If you run into any other problems, let me know. I have a few notes from my conversion that may help. Although, it is mostly straight forward. Most of my notes pertain to putting it into a wagon.

I didn't have to swap either of these harnesses and I converted a 3.8 na regal too....was this because of the fuel pump ?...thanks for the info

Oh yeah This is important.

That N/A block is GOLD. Thats a 109 block----keep it Im sure u will eventually need it--or sell it for a few hundred. Every lil bit helps when dealing with these cars.

Conversion

Hi,
As you can see from my info, I have done this swap before. It has been some time, but as I remember, I did it with very little trouble. The biggest issue I remember was the wiring harness, which on my '83, had to be replaced from front to back, due to the fuel pump being located in tank.

Wow that was a nice limited.

It WAS a nice car. I still wonder how the heck I was able to keep my cool after that stupid dizzy woman ruined it. I'll feel alot better after this conversion is done........I hope.

think about the value dude

I would not swap the drive train as you know the eight digit on your vin is where the value of the car is after the swap it will just be another hybrid wanabe GN/t regal I would swap the frame from the donor car to the turbo regal and call the body shop. This way you keep the value of the eight digit.
The only reason I say this is because I had a 1984 Monte Carlo in the low 12s and I never got the respect or value for my car.
I did a complete swap
1-dash
2-rug
3-seats
4-100% of the wiring
5-rear
6-gas tank
7-door panels everything in the interior was from a GN I mean if you sat in

The car you would think you was in an OE GN.
And all I ever got was that’s not a GN "why don't you get a real GN"
and the worst part was the value no matter how much money you put into it at the time of a sale the first thing the potential buyer will say why do you want so much its not a real GN/t regal.
Good luck dude

OK, John since this is a turbo board, I'll give you a quick taste of the 455 car.....BTW thanks for the crash pics. I was obviously too overwhelmingly disgusted at that point to take pics.

8.5 is in. What color are the gas tanks supposed to be on these cars? Are they 100% black, Black on top & silver on bottom, or 100% silver?

driveshaft loop

Installed my Metco G-body driveshaft loop. Later today, I'll get my drum brakes back together with aluminum drums, purge all the brakes lines and convert to silicon brake fluid and then maybe I'll take a break for a day or two and try to figure out how I want to build my short block.......
