@ E-Town today and I wanted to burn my car after the first Run

i can check my car later to give you an idea, but generally i would want it above 13.4volts, could go as high as 14.4V or so(normally when cold). The hotter it gets under the hood, around the battery, the lower the volts will be normally but 12.7 running is too low. Not 100% sure but it could cause stuff like a weak ignition/spark system, fuel pump will not push enough fuel/reduced volume, etc...

This was at the Scanmaster With the headlights on and both fans.
Ok guys I ran out to the car and checked the volts.
Cold at idle in the range of 13.7 to 13.3
But
As the temp came up it started going down in hurry (145*) 13.5 and it would flash 12.8 then back up to 13.3
At 160* 12.7 to 12.9 was the range.

Tomorrow I will check with a digital multi tester at the battery and at the alt it self and then post up my findings.

At the Volt gauge it was at a steady 13+ the hole time and they are both feed via the same wire.

I do remember running both fans at the track.
I was trying to avoid heat soak in the lanes and I did forget to turn them off during the runs

i guess it was a rookie mistake by a rookie :frown:

Check the positive Bat cable going to the starter common problem with these cars the engine torques over and shorts the cable on the header causing the key off cond. Just one more thing to check;)

well i checked my car, all warmed up, 162 degrees, at idle, and i was ranging from 13.7-14.2volts. here's a pic:)

i guess just the usual stuff + coolant fan on low, scanmaster, alky kit active, boost gauge, CD player... just little stuff.

i checked it today at the alt and battery
at alt. cold 14.1 - 14.3
at bat. cold 14.0 - 14.2

At alt hot 13.40 - 13.50
at Bat hot 13.28 -13.38

i forgot to check it at the fuel tank:mad:
Also how do i check it at the ignition module?

  I replaced the coil and Module and I still have the problem.

How do I check the INPUT voltage to the ignition module and coil?

This week I will also remove the headers to check for leaks and cracks.:(

One more thing I will also strap on ANOTHER fuel pressure gauge.

Any other ideas please post them up.

If you've ruled out ignition it might be time to start looking at fuel. When my fuel pump died the car would nose over about half track, too. But I'd get crazy knock along with it. The car was fine on the street. If I hadn't gone to the track I'd never know I had a problem. It happened when I was WOT at speeds that I don't get to on the street.

i don't get any Knock
just my O2s get as high as 950's plus. So i think it must be electrical:confused:

Yes - that was the other thing mine was doing when the pump failed. 02s would drop like a rock. You're going rich for some reason, like the fuel isn't burning so it would seem electrical. Are you sure you don't have something like a chip-injector mismatch?

Jim

A good datalog might show the issue...

I am still thinking battery cable..... these motors do funny things when under alot of torque.... a broken motor mount ......the engine can easily move several inches one way or the other..... you might think everything has plenty of clearance when parked in the driveway..... but put it on a sticky surface (i.e. the track) and brake build boost... and let her rip..... and the engine tries to climb up out of the engine compartment on the drivers side... clearances change everywhere....

FWIW.... I do think a datalog from am PL or DS would show what is going on....

Don't get too discouraged..... keep plugging away... you'll find it....

I had a broken motor mount on my Caddy cause the ground cable to slowly bend itself into two pieces from the constant movement. It took months and nearly drove me insane. The car's behavior was totally erratic and random. It was throwing random trouble codes, stuff would stop working and then work again, etc. Eventually the cable broke in half and that made the problem more evident.

i remember that.......

I agree, it seems that the car is going pig rich for some reason, but it is not that the fuel isnt burning, there's just way too much of it. A reading of 950mV tells me that there is almost no oxygen left so it should be burning the fuel it needs, just it doesnt need as much as the ECU is giving it! Make sense I hope??? Def. make sure the chip is right.

I went back and read your old post about the stalling...this ones a thinker! hope we can fig. it out:smile:
