Engine Mechanic near Fort Worth, TX ?

Carnage is an understatement but a blessing in disguise if your a "sunny side up" kinda person. I'm looking forward to the progress so keep those pics coming please.

Any suggestions on a good quality, High Performance oil pump for my 87 GN (the one having the crankshaft, rods, and pistons replaced)?

A faulty stock oil pump caused for my front main bearings to seize up, which in turn caused the crankshaft to shear in half due to the extreme torsion (front bearings seized up while the rear half of the crank continued to turn).

Thanks in advance.

Probably need to find an NOS gm front cover or one of the TA pieces for a good starting point unless you come across a good used one. Here is the Earl Brown idea of how to assemble an oil pump.

If you get a hold of him he does those covers and sells them. He does some selling on eBay. I'll see if I can find his seller name. I think it is earlbrown but I'm not sure.
Thanks so much! Will look into a NOS GM front cover.

As far as failure analysis goes,. I don't think the bearing seized. Nor would they provide enough seizure to snap a turbo crank. If they seized they should be purple or blue heat marked. From the pix I think the main cap broke, then hit one of the crank throws which then jammed into the block. Are there any dents in the block and crank which match the main cap? Fwiw. Just wanted to explore something beyond blaming the oil pump.

Very good points. You are probably correct. The block has no damage, and the crank does not look gouged in any areas, just the break (sheared area) of the crank at the journal. The oil pump is stock, so I am replacing it with a high performance oil pump, just to be safe. Thanks so much for your input.

Hey Rich,

If you get time, please see if you can find Earl Brown's Ebay ID and send it to me. I am seriously thinking about buying one of his modified oil pumps.

Thanks so much,

Landon

I think I have seen your Grand National you are selling at the Cops and Rodders show a few months ago if I'm not mistaken. I took mine out there. I have an 87 with t tops that I bought in December. I'm in South Fort Worth. Still getting a lot of knowledge on these cars. Good luck with your build.

Hi Juan,

The GN that I am selling actually came from Kentucky. I have not attended a Cops and Robbers show with the car. Must have been another GN that you saw at the show. It is great to know another local GN owner. Maybe we can meet up sometime. I am in northwest Fort Worth. Yes, I totally agree. There is a steep learning curve on these cars. Thank you for wishing me good luck. Talk to you later.

There's are couple of us here in NRH/ Haltom City. I'm always down to meet up with locals.
Hey Shawn,

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully we can meet up in the future. I live close to Saginaw.

I actually grew up in north Saginaw so I know the area quite well. I get my car back from the painter mon so it will be ready to show in a week or so. Maybe Mike will come me. He's the racer and I'm the cruiser lol.
