This week's program synopsis:

Inside the Tranny Show #TGG-204

On this episode of Two Guys Garage, Dave and Sam tear apart a 200-R tranny from a Grand National.

When Sam and Dave pulled the transmission out of this Grand National, they showed us a pretty near worst-case scenario of neglected-transmission wear. The fluid was burnt, and all the friction materials had been burnt off of the clutches and band. Sam walked us through all the hydraulic systems, and reminded us how important it is too keep the pressure up in the system to avoid damage. <P>Rather than trying to fix this old unit, Sam and Dave installed a remanufactured unit, and upgraded it with a TCI Torque converter. The TCI 10" StreetFighter gives you much better low and mid-range power than a stock converter, and a 1500+ RPM increase in stall over stock converters. As always, Sam and Dave used ARP fasteners when re-installing the transmission. Once they had the tranny in and the Car back down on the ground, they got ready to test their work on their newest toy, the Mustang MD-1750 Chassis Dyno. The Mustang dyno lets Sam and Dave factor in wind resitance and up to a 15 degree grade to get "real-world" performance numbers for a car or truck. Good thing they had it around this week to check their work on the tranny.

Show was an eye opener for me....must be a thousand pieces in one of those trannys :)
