Todays progress....finish painting the POR15 on the floor pan. Then as much as I hated to paint over it with truck bed coating. Remove AC, remove heater core. Paint cowl, firewall and most of core support. Almost ready to start on chassis.
I vaccumed out the HVAC lots of crud in there. Ac was empty so all of the parts are gonna be replaced. There a lot of places you not get with a brush. The truck bed coating is thick and does not flow into cracks very well. I took aerosol rustoleum and loaded all the cracks and gaps the brush could not get into. I was high with all the fumes!
Today I moved my cars out of the other side of the shop. Put the frame on the lift and stripped it with the exception of front control arms and springs. Rear is all painted and I will overhual it Sun. The chassis is all painted. Thats a lot of work with a paint brush!!! Some areas will need a second coat.
Today had a minor setback. Found a chip on pinion gear so no rearend overhual. I did get new bearings pressed on new posi carrier. As well as things cleaned up. The entire rotating assy had 5inch lbs preload. Way too low. Backlash was .007..very good. Had a buddy come over and I put him to work..Got the front suspension back together 99%. Me and the wifey drug it over under the body . Had to get my babies back inside. They where not happy bout sleeping outside lastnite. Finally got the firewall and inner fendars painted satin black.
Got all my powdercoated parts home tonite. Last few pics show the comparison pics of Scotts vs some me and a buddy did a while a go. Clearly can see the professional ones came out better.
My tool for the rear end did not come in so looks like another screwed up plan for this weekend.
This mornin got new front rotors installed and bearings repacked. Idler arm on, changed all upper control arm bushings. Test fit the new stainless lines. Gotta secure them. Then start on rear suspension. Also installed crossmember and heat shields that I had powdercoated.
Spent today setting up the rear end. Had the pinion bearing off 4 times adjusting pinion depth. Got my hands on a diff spreader that helped with the carrier R&R. Landed up adding almost .030 to the OE pinion shim to get the depth right. Got the backlash nice and tight at .003. New axle seals and S10 wheel cylinders as well. Installed new rear diff bushings in the ears as well. Time to start putting the rear suspension back together.
No new pics today. Did some painting of engine parts, started to do a few touch up on the frame and landed up recoating both frame rails since the weather was so nice. Also sprayed the floor pan with the second coat of truck bed coating again since it was nice and warm for painting.
