I have an 84, pretty much stock, wondering how hard it is to convert to the 86/87 ECM, Ive heard numerous times that theres a range of other thing you can do with the different computer, the car has the 86/87 coil and the fuel pump hotwire kit, but im not exactly sure how to change the ecm... or what i have to buy to make it work.

1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Disconnect the ECM wires.
3. Remove the 84-85 ECM and open the access door/panel
4. Remove the small chip and install in the 86-87 ECM (Ground yourself to a metal part of the car and watch for static electricity)
5. Install the new HA specific chip in the 86-87 ECM
6. (You can either install the IAT sensor (Recommended), or have the chip burner take this feature out. You have to do one of the two or the SES light will be on.)
7. Reconnect the wiring to the 86-87 ECM.
8. Reconnect the battery.
9. Done.

The 86/87 ECM swap is on my to do list too. Ive heard they're way ahead of the 84/85 ECM's.

Only turbo's made for 84-85 will work. With your stock configuration

Ok, now another stupid question, how do i get an 86/87 maf to work with the 84 computer, i dropped my maf this morning and broke it :-/
