Aftermarket boost gage

Do boost gauges go bad? Just got the car, double checked how previous owner installed it and it looks good. The boost gauge in the dash lights up and works but the aftermarket one does not. It is a VDO and I downloaded the instructions to make sure it was installed right. Is there a way to test the gauge to make sure it is working properly?

I deal with them at work quite often and yes they can, only seen a couple go bad over the past 5 years while in service they usually come in not reading at zero (damage from shipping I guess) autometer now ships them in to us with a lock pin inside to keep the needle from bouncing around during shipping. Unhook the line from the back of the gauge and find someone with a mityvac that has vac/ press, they have a gauge on them and are pretty accurate just see if it matches up to what yours is reading, that's how we test ours.
