Alternator putting out 11.6 volts...

Did I test the alternator properly? I got 11.6 volts with black lead to ground/negative on the battery and red lead to stud on back of alternator.

Is it my alternator or any other items I should check as well?

I can tell you my battery itself is probably bad, I let it die and sit dead for probably 9 months, it was New like a year ago but I don't know if it is now bad from sitting dead.

But I'm not concerned with the battery, just the alternator and testing it properly.

try this with your possibly dead battery, hook jumper cables to it from another good battery for an hour or so and then try to charge.
