I installed a new cam/timing chain and oil pump gears and changed the oil after 100 miles. I was a little worried when I found a slight metal glaze in the oil. I drove it around another 60 miles on the new oil and when I changed it again it was clean. I have changed cams before but never had this happen, anyone ever seen the metal glaze before? Could it be from the oil pump housing(new)?

TIA

Did you open the oil filter , to see if there was metal in there?

Sometimes, what appears to be a slight metal glaze turned out to be nothing more than the cam lube down in the oil (it had some kind of shiny substance in it).
Scared the &)*)(* out of me when I first saw it. But never saw it again after the first oil change. That was a little over 35,000 miles ago.

yeah i would not freak yet, turbodave has a point, did it look like it could have just been the break in lube?

I cut open the filter and there was nothing. I am inclined to agree that it was probably the cam lube. I changed the oil one more time to be sure and it was still clean after another 200 miles.

Thanks for the reassurance.
