Driveshaft

The driveshaft is TR only more or less. All G-bodies with the 8.5 rear use the same driveshaft which just leaves the 84-87 TR and the 84-87 Cutlass H/O-442 as the only ones that use it.

You can use the 7.5 driveshaft in a jamb. The only difference is the tube size and shape. The length and the U-joints are the same.

I was under the impression that the 8.5 shaft was a bit shorter, due to the 8.5 pinion/housing being a bit longer in the front. I will confess that' i've never checked, but it seems to be the concensus on these boards.

There might be a difference in length. It cant be much. I've used the 7.5 for emergencies before and never had a problem. Funny thing. If I look at driveshafts for the B-body which also uses both the 7.5 and 8.5 rears they use the same driveshaft for both of them.

I think the driveshaft for the 8.5 rear is just about an inch shorter. I just checked my Hollander and it says with the 8.5 rear it fits 84 to 88 Cutlass and 84 to 87 regal.
