Does anyone here subscribe to the idea of changing your head gasket as part of routine maintenance ?? I have heard two schools of thought on this and wanted to see what the concensus is.

Some believe you should leave well enough alone and wait until you need to change them, while others believe you should change them around 60k miles, especially if the car is seeing the track on a fairly regular basis.

Stats - Basically stock with all the bolt on's for a 1987 GN with 64k miles, running strong, sees the track 4-5 times a season. Best run - 12.2 @ 112mph.

Thanks

I've never heard of changing head gaskets as a preventive maintenance measure. I'd leave well enough alone. In my experience, GM is much better at achieving equal clamping force on all of the head bolts than I can doing it manually.

Now I have heard of changing head gaskets frequently but only as a corrective measure!
