its this pop up add from winfixer that continually pops up on my computer. when i close it it gives me a web page. when i close that i get a download screen. when i close that the cycle starts over again

I've done a search and i have 2 cookies with winfizer in the name. when i delete them the problem goes away for about 2 minutes.

I've ran adaware and nothing.

any ideas

Ok, well I had to fix a computer that ad that problem, somehow it automatically installs itselfs and you have to go in and delete it. that program is a real pain but once you delete it you should be good.delete it through My computer, good luck.

If you have a system restore option, use that and just go back to a date before it started happening.

Make sure you change everything else too though, because you will lose everything since after that certain date.

thanks for the link to the microsoft spyware remover, i ran addaware (which is pretty good i thought) and had the computer clean, then ran the microsoft one and it found 10 more spyware bugs.

but that didn't fix the problem. this acts like its a program in a way. BUT its not in the programs list in the controll panel, i was going to delete it that way. i can't find anything in the whole computer that looks like it could be the cause of this gargabe. I did a search for winfix on my computer and the only files it ever finds are 2 cookies. that constantly come back.

any more specific ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. i'm almost to the point of getting professional help on this.

I recently fixed a machine with the same problem. The program always copies itself to another set of files. The only way I could resolve it was to remove the drive as the master of the system and set it up as a slave. While it was a master not all renditions of the program could be found and removed. This program buries itself very deep in the registory. As long as the drived stayed a master nothing I tried could remove it completely. Scanning the drive as a slave fixed the issue. I used a $20 clamshell from CompUSA and plugged the drive in as a USB device. Kind of a pain in the bu++, but it worked. HTH

go to yuor control panel. click on performance and maint. click on administrative tools. click on services. go down to messenger service and shut it off.

I had to remove this from a customers pc, what a pita. I had to delete the associated program files from the file system and then, go through the registry and clean it up to completely get rid of it.
Good luck with it.

its on my laptop and the touch pad is going out, i think the wireless internet is about ready to pop also, its under warrantee so i'll see if they can just blow out the hard drive also, theres nothing i cant' replace easly on there anyways. hopefully they will do it for free or mininal charge.

whats the deal with firefox? the mac computers i use at school has it, i thought it was just a mac thing. whats the scoop on it?

and for your information i already am blind. no reason to stop now.

heres a little update. I got the microsoft spyware thing, which is great by the way. i ran adaware which is pretty good to begin with. then i ran the ms one and it found 5 more spyware bugs. not bad, plus it does a great job at blocking it.

then i got firefox, i like it. its a little slow with immages but oh well, it works. not as familliar as internet explorer but its easy enough.

the winfixer is gone, or almost gone. i haven't seen it pop up in about a week. I doubt its gone but if its not bothering me, i'm happy.

thanks for all the help!
