Inside door handle rods plastic covering

The rods that connect the inside door handles to the latches have a white nylon mesh stuff around them. I assume it was to keep them from rattling. The originals are disintegrating & falling off. I tried to get some off a car in the junkyard, but they started breaking apart as soon as I touched them as well. Does anyone know of a source to buy this material new? Do any newer cars use that same material to scrounge from a junkyard? Somebody else must of noticed this as well as me. I am just trying to make it like new again, Thanks, Ron

Stupid suggestion, try rubber vacuum line. Slit it down the middle and enjoy. Buy at any parts house by the foot.
