my rpm gauge on my 87 GN is not working properly

when i start the car the gauge red lines at cold idle and when the car idles down it stays the same way what can that be please help guys??????????

Need to send it off to caspers elec. they will replace it with a good one, i thinks its like 90.00 bucks. Be careful taking it out they need the core. Go to thier website, it exsplains what is wrong with it.
