opening engine

I am going to install a cam in my car, but I dont have the time to do it in a weekend. I will be doing little by little over the week and then on sunday hopfuly be done by then start to fire it up. My question is can I leve the engine open, with the mailfod and timing cover off with nothing happing.

Probably won't hurt anything,, however, i'd think twice about just changing the cam, since the gain is minimal... there's other things to do that will gain power and easier.

Thanks for the reply. I have a busy work schule so I will try to do it in the little time I have. I forgot to metion that the cam is wiped. Its the famous number 3 exusht lobe.

Put a towel over the lifter valley to prevent any debrees from falling in.
