Possible trans issue

87 TR recently had a stock rebuild on the trans and d5. I plan on asking my trans guy about this next week

Recently noticed a few times when trans is warm, and shifted from reverse to drive the trans seems to slam into first gear. Seems to shift normally around town.
Any thoughts what would cause this?

Could be a trans issue...but might be a rear end issue. To much "end play" in the ring and pinion in your rear end can cause the same symptom.

Depends on how fast you shift from reverse to drive. The pump pressure is boosted in reverse. If you move the shift lever quick from reverse to drive the pressure doesn't have time to drop and it will hit hard. If a shift kit was put in raising the pump pressure it will cause this. Ask you builder if he did a straight rebuild with no modifications or did he do some upgrades.
