Problem with MAFT with timing option

I noticed I've got popping and severe cut out issues when I tap into the white timing wire; for use of the MAFT timing option. I've done various tests to come to this conclusion. For now, I've got the 'loop' plugged in so my buggy is running perfect....just can't adjust the timing for now.

does anyone know if the timing option can work with any chip, or is it only applicable with the vendors other chips; such as the Extender. BTW, I have an extender chip ordered. However, it would be nice to know if the timing option is 'chip specific' ?
