Question

Brent check out the crime comparison web site suggested here & compare our area to others. Very interesting.
Very true Lou, but, in TX a lot of people carry guns, legally!
Shooting a burglar, or car thief, could potentially be be viewed as a "crime" and be part of the data.
Maybe "data scrubbing" is in order. LOL!

Interesting enough the city of HOUSTON was found to code crimes incorrectly (downgrading), which make the city seem "safer".
I can only guess that this attracts people and businesses, and gives the politicians a chance for re-election ....... but dampens the subsidy for crime prevention.
Lots of New Orleans Katrina Drug gangs still around that never left, fighting for territory. .........

Dallas crime rate is high because of South Dallas.

I live in Southlake, 1/2 way between Dallas and Fort Worth and can get to either in 25 minutes.

Plug Southlake into your crime calculator and compare it to Houston.

WOW!
Very cool!
How are high is poperty tax, etc in your area?

I even compared Southlake to "Sugar Land" and crime is lower in some areas.

Now just a minute here! these drug gangs are disenfranchised victims of the Bush administration. Here In Calif this reference would be considered racism.

Racism? Ouch! More less "perceived racism".
Not in TX. Here it's referred to as “justice” on a jury panel.
Wait ...... I thought that was one of the reasons you wanted to move? LOL

I may have to reconsider this, Don't know if I handle all of this insensitivity.

Lou,

I understand.
However, if you decide to work on your "insensitivity", you will find that you get used to it real quick.

The biggest question for you lou is whether you want to be in a better location and keep more of your money, right? I think the answer is clear. Since you live in Kalifornication and the socialist are going to take more of your money and give you nothing but restrictions for your life it seems clear enough for me. I moved back after 10 years for a reason and don't plan to leave unless someone offers me 2 mil a year tax free and anything else I want

What is putting a dampener on peoples mobility & mine to an extent is the inability to sell homes to be able to make a move.

LOU: I know it wasn't in your "consideration" list but and I know this is a TX forum...but, I've lived in FL, TX, SoCal, (all nice places-SoCal being my favorite) and now KY. Yes I said it. Kentucky. It's only got around 4 million people total! (A little bit more than San Diego), No traffic, minimal crime, CHEAP prices. I bought a 4000 sq ft house for less than $200k and I have land and no one cares what you do with your land. Plans are in the works for a big garage in the back yard. Also, cheap registration, cheap taxes, NO SMOG checks...

The downsides: state tax, cold weather in the winter and hillbillys. :p Other than that it's ok.

Just a thought.

What part of KY?

While I was in BG I drove around looking and found some very nice homes. Homes that would go for 1mil+ here going for 230k there.

There's lots of nice homes and some awesome pieces of land. As you know you can't have it all so there is always a trade off. I traded the convenience and weather of sunny San Diego for the sanity and financial break that KY offers.

I'm in the South East. Hillbilly Heaven. Actually, not as bad as people made it seem. Yea, there's a bunch of rednecks and the state color is camoflage but overall pretty nice bunch of people I have met. There's always a few bad ones here and there but as far as I can tell, there are no gangs, GM is preferred over Ford and the SS Monte Carlo is revered here. It's not all bad.

BTW, this is the site I was looking at that convinced me to come this way...

LandAndFarm.com - Land for sale, Farms for sale, Rural Property for sale

When I saw what you could buy and for how much I was hooked. I have 1.5 acres and that's small around here. In SoCal, it was unheard of... Oh yea, and my tiny paychecks go a long, long way.

I almost forgot.... I just 3 hours away from BG!!! :)

Another thing I forgot to mention... People around here do NOT like the government in their business. So much so that even in many of the government I been in, people still smoke at their desks.

I'm not a smoker and I'm really not too fond of it indoors. However, when a local county bigwig was asked about why he did not do something about people smoking in the government buildings; he replied " Last I checked, this was still America"...

How about trading us your governor for that punk a$$ movie actor that passed himself of as a conservative but turned out to be more liberal that the one before that was recalled.. He basically told the Obama bunch that Texas is doing just fine without their help & thank you very much. He also invited any Calf. business's that needed a safe haven to relocate to a more friendlier environment in your state. He went on to say your tax's are lower & frivolous law suits aren't encouraged & a few other tid bits that delighted me. Texas just keeps looking better.

Austin

Austin is the winner as long as you don't need a job, lol. I'd love to live in Austin, but economy sucks compared to Houston. I'm a mortgage broker and i see it first hand. Bad mojo there, but beautiful city.

This is typical !

I recently finished an engine job for a customer the works up in northern CA a town near San Francisco with a 20% homeless rate,Smoking pot in public in front of cops even is routine & accepted as a matter of fact. These are left overs from the hippy era of the 60's, they are foul smelling rabble & don't bathe. He told me of an incident where There were a group smoking pot out in public view & a cop close by. Cop totally disregarded the violation & went across the street & busted a guy having a cigarette. In that area they are now pursuing third hand smoke. If you even smell of cigarettes it will be a violation unreal isn't it. lol

I saw that one coming!!! So you guys know, the town where such incident took place is arcata, ca. Like I told lou, it's a whole different culture up there! And yes, they are foul smelling. But the area is beautiful.

I just about gave lou a heart attack when I asked where his recycle bin was!!! I wouldn't have been so cruel with my humor if I knew I'd get THAT reaction!
