Questions following turbo install

Hi All:

Thanks to this board and some wise words from my tuning guru, I was able to install my TA49 without incident. No problems, no leaks. And quite frankly, it took me less time to do this than it does to change my spark plugs. Keep in mind, I'm a TR beginner....

Anyway, started the car and noticed some smoke coming from the turbo housing as it heated up. I'm assuming this is just excess oil from the housing burning off as it heats up? Haven't driven it yet because of all the rain. Started to go away as it warmed, but I just want to make sure.

Also, regarding the rod on the wastegate. I didn't really adjust it after installing the new turbo - it just kinda fit right in there with no adjustment needed. I guess I'll just see what readings I get with my new boost gauge and adjust if need be?

Anything else I should be looking for? Would I be able to tell if I had a header to turbo leak fairly easily?

TIA!
