radio doesn't lock on to stations

Have a 87 GNX and the radio will not lock on to a station or get very good reception. I have taken the original antenna lead off and tried an aux antenna to test id the antenna cable was bad but the same result. Any good radio people in the Sarasota Fl area? Gene
