Hi everyone. On my 86 T-Type on the rear axle, are there one bearing on both sides or two? Starting to get noise back there. Checked the pads. They were fine. Any suggestions? Thank you.

theres roller bearings in the ends of the tube called outer bearings ..one assembly per side pressed in then the seal gets tapped in
when you pull axles you need to look at axle surface and if its torn up the bearing, seal and the axle should be replaced

theres cone bearings and races on the side of the ring gear carrier ..one bearing and race per side . the races just sit there held in place and are under preload by the shims. the side bearing on the carrier require a press to install and a special tool to remove, you need to checkand adjust backlash and preload if you change bearings , also not a bad idea to check backlash before tear down and if its greater than spec determine what caused the excessive lash and replace what needs replacing .at that point youll also need a shim kit to achieve proper backlash and preload

theres two cone bearings on the pinion , one gets pressed on the pinion before pinion drops in (the larger one) and you need a press(or special tool) to remove the bearing and need to save the shim behind the bearing for reinstall to maintain pinion install height. then theres a smaller cone bearing goes in from the pinion yoke end and gets its preload when the yoke is installed as the crush collar is torqued , the races for the pinion bearings are in the carrier and must be driven out and new races installed with a race driver and a hammer
