Had my car up on all 4s today upgrading the converter. I noticed the rear tires had play.they can b pushed in and out from bothsides.they moved about a 1/4 of an inch each way any ideas

some play is normal like 1/64- 1/16 .
1/4 " is excessive
check the posi particularly the side gear to spider clearance , might be wearing out the clutches or just need to add some shim behind the clutch packs
also check for worn c clips , they should be flat faced with no sign of the axle ends cutting in

sounds like i gotta remove the cover.well iwas gona change the gear oil looks like its the longway
