Removing valve cover on passenger side

I have spent 2 days already busting my knuckles trying to remove the valve cover on the passenger side of the vehicle of my '86 gn. There's a plate that i've tried to remove also but no luck removing it due to small screws that are hard as hell to get out from the bottom holding up that plate. Any ideas would be appreciated. I should have paid a friend a case of beer to remove it, and that will definately be my next move.

you should not have to remove the black plate around the heater assembly. Get the heater hoses and heater control valve out of the way, take them off if needed. It will come out it just needs to come out at the correct angle. Pull up on the oval conduit (wire harness) while pulling the cover out as well. dont pull to hard though. remove spark plug wires as well
