What sending unit are you guys talking about?
Now that it's being talked about, that means I will need one any day now  so I'm trying to plan ahead...

The fuel sending unit inside your tank. I send the signal for your fuel gauge and if it rust out like mine it cause a nice leak and a drop in fuel pressure. That probably puts extra strain on your fuel pump too.
Lou i'm sorry for not updating. Those pills you gave me keep the wife all over me and I don't have much free time now.
Also, I PMed the Gbodyparts guys and they have a few new and used and aftermarket. And my stock breather MELTED! I got a new metal one though. Hopefully i'll be rollin by next weekend.

How much are the new ones at GBodyParts.com? Sounds like I had better plan ahead on that one also.

If your car isn't rusty on the bottom like mine you'll probably be ok for a long time. I think the new ones are going for $325.

Good luck with G body parts, That's who sold me the Viagra. Had made in china stamped on them so I figured that I would unload them on you. My apologies to your wife.

I talked to Brian today and he told me he has aftermarket units, but he doesn't know who makes em. He also has a FEW Delcos. I went with the delco.

OK.
Mine is fine.
I had it out several months back when I replaced my fuel pump.

Other than being a bit swoopy in the corners or up/down hills on brakes or acclerating...it's reading accurate. I replaced the sock and seal with the pump.

I would have done the same thing under the same circumstances.
Gary those NOS sending units are for an 86, The part number & unit for an 87 is different. As to the aftermarket piece I haven't heard how that works out but would be interested if anyone has tried one with any success. People need to know not to let their cars sit in storage with anything less than a full tank.I had a low mileage GN come in & drove me nuts trying to figure out a running problem.Turned out to be a rusty tank & the entire fuel system got contaminated from sitting around. Another E-bay tragedy. Someone show me one example of an E-bay deal that wasn't.I would never buy a car sight unseen & trust my fate to the wind. While I'm at it. I have also had a run of cheap deals on rough TR's that are no more than donor parts cars. Why anyone would go out & buy a beater & dump a bunch of money in it is beyond me. Wait a little longer find a good car & pay a little more in the long run you will be much further ahead. It seems that the fellows that have never owned one & can't afford to make expensive mistakes are the most vulnerable for this. Cranky old Lou

I noticed that after I posted that those were different units. NOS4GN only shows new nos ones for up to an '86 so this could get exciting in a hurry. My guess would be that nobody has new NOS '87 ones if NOS4GN doesn't have any, and he doesn't. Guess that I would not have done the same thing under those circumstances. HTH & good luck on this.

Exactly,I have a brand new 87 unit in stock. But some guy from Texas has spoken for it. Last i heard from him he was boarding up his house getting ready for that hurricane.Maybe living in So Cal isn't so bad after all.

OK spoke to this fellow Glenn & he assured me the sending units are interchangeable except for the fuel pump wiring connector. So this is good to know & appreciate his patience in explaining that to me. I always knew there was a difference between 86 & 87 but never bothered to ask what & he cleared that up. Always something to learn even after all these years of working on them.

Ok, I got my new sending unit in and replaced some rotted fuel lines, so I should be ok on the EVAP test. Thanks to Lou my breather situation is good to go. But now I can't get the car to idle under 950-1000 in park. IAC shows 140 when I start it up and then goes to 00. I did the IAC reset about 5 times. Will this affect my emissions test will it be ok?

since they went to loaded mode dyno test they dont test at idle anymore. as long as the car can sustain an even speed at 15 & 25 mph & pass visual & emissions levels you should be OK Under the old system it would be tested at idle & 2500 rpm.

Thanks Lou. I will give it a go. Do you think my IAC is dying, dirty, or something esle is jacked. I'm going to put the the emission chip back in tomorrow and will see if I can get it to idle properly.
