SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning

... Uphill...

BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay

A bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it

And how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of
Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
Childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you
Don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the damn library and
Look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write
Somebody a letter, with a pen!

...Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to
Steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
Were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school,
Your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
Just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video
Games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
Like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
Actually had to use your Imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or
Screens, it was just one screen
Forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting
Harder and harder and
Faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that
Was only m-net And there was no on screen menu and no remote
Control!

You had to use a Little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
On! You were screwed when it Came to channel surfing! You had to get off
Your ass and walk over to the TV to change the Channel and there was no
Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
On Saturday Morning. Do you Hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK
For cartoons, you spoiled
Little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
Something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that!

If we wanted Popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing
And shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
Today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted
Five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd I thought you'd like a smile,

Im 22 and im smiling:D My parents were pretty slow at keeping up with technology... just got cable and fast internet this year, still use paper TV guides, i hated card catalogs at the library:eek: ... i can relate to most of this post, we had the ATARi system but i really didnt play that(still developing the motor skills at that age), i rocked the Original Nintendo:)

Nice Post!

Thats pretty good. I miss the days of 3 wheelers, mopeds and playing mike tysons puch out on nintendo. We had the high tech beta movie player that came with a radio controll, it had a 6 foot cord attached to the beta player Pretty high tech at the time.

For the record I'm 25 but went through those exact things. So I say we change that to 25 and older.

We used to have the remote control with the damn cable attached. Yeah, real remote I tell ya!!!

HAHAHA, MIKE TYSON'S punch out! Now on the Wii, you can download the samegame, but it's called "Mr. Dreams punch out", guess they don't care for Tysons ear biting antics:eek:

I hate you all!

I never had Nintendo or anything like that....still don't.

My folks didn't even have a remote control until I was already out on my own after college.

They finally got AC a few years back when my mom threatened to kill my dad if he didn't.

We used to play out in the cornfield and swamps until after dark. When my mom wanted us home she rang a HUGE cow bell that you could hear for miles.

We rode our bikes (had banana seats) without helmets down gravel roads and off the end of docks into the lake.

We never had those cool kit construction play sets in the back yard. We build forts out of used pallets and nailed boards to trees 25 feet off the ground.

And...I am still alive today :) (42)

Will

Video Games? We actually had to go outside and play baseball/football/soccer/hockey. Ya had to go around and get the guys(and gals if ya didn't have enough to play) rounded up, get a ball and the other equipment together and hope everyone stayed around and didn't get mad and take their stuff and go home. Then a car would come and we actually got out of the street for fear the driver might run us over unlike the exceptionally slow youts of my neighborhood.

At school we actually go 'licks' (No not that kind) with a wooden paddle. In athletics at the end of each six weeks we all lined up to get our report cards checked for poor citizenship grades. The athletic staff felt we should be setting a good example in the classroom. A you were good. 'B one lick' C two 'Licks' D 3 'Licks' and an F got you 5 'Licks' this was good for each class. Some guys were quite sore if they couldn't behave in class.

The shop teacher was worse. He had a wooden leg to pivot on and got quite a swing in. I saw some pretty tough guys cry after just one from that guy.

I wasn't even allowed to use the phone after 8 pm on school nights.

Even in my twenties all I had was a pager. Crazy messages with numbers.

If these kids( or parents)

ever realize all these things are not necessities I think the world would stop spinning- Privileges , not necessities and we do not need every one of them. We survived without them but they do make life much nicer

Got to work on an over 50 list.:D

TV, black and white and pretty much one channel, then we got the antenna that rotated with a dial control, high tech!

Tree forts built with our own hands, swimming in rivers without any adult supervision or "floaties", sink or swim baby!

Sled riding to all hours of the night with REAL sleds made of wood and metal. no tubes or snowboards, give me a Flexible Flyer any day. Had lots of woods in back of the house I grew up so we made sled riding trails in between huge trees with jumps and ended on a pond, sometimes the ice was thin and would be cracking underneath us as we flew across it.

Playing outside during the summer from after breakfast with a break for lunch and then back out again until supper. Fresh air, what a concept!

Bikes, before ready made "banana seat:D " bikes we made our own.

Remember watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in black and white:D , in my neighborhood you either liked the Beatles or Rolling Stones. That was a cool era.

Minibikes!!! Once I got my Honda MiniTrail 70 I was riding that thing every chance I got, that thing is probably still running today, just couldn't kill no matter how hard I tried. Loved beating up all the Rupp mini bikes in the hood. Funny how parents didn't really have to worry about us back then, now you don't turn your back on them for a second.

Remember going to the local Sears in the early 60's and just wandering around the toy dept and lawn mower dept while waiting for my mother to finish her shopping. Now you have to worry about an Adam Walsh incident maybe happening to your kids.

Remember our band teacher in 8th grade throwing his baton at us if we didn't pratice enough, now he would be arrested for assault, well, maybe that is something I don't miss.:)

Growing up in the 60's/70's was the best.

I may be pushing 53 but have been told I look like I am in my early 40's. Knew that babyface would come in handy. I usually act like I am in my 30's but lately feel like I am in my 60's.   Got a 13 year old son and always tell him I should be his grandfather.

Also remember the TV repairman making house calls to replace "Tubes" in our TV when they burned out. Getting home made popcorn balls from people when we went Trick or Treating, there was never any question as to them being poisoned or anything stupid like that. Actually went Christmas Caroling when I was young....and it was cool to do that. There was no problem with taking a shotgun to school with you, and leaving it in the car for after school FFA (Future Farmers of America) turkey shoot practice. Getting out of line at school, get sent to the Principle's Office to get "Swats". Wow................some of us are starting to get old, but we can stay young at heart. ;)

I remember when we got into fights or got hurt playing outside...there were no parents threatening anyone with lawsuits. Hell I didn't even know what a lawsuit was. We just sucked it up so we could go play outside the next day....it was all good then.

im 52, and for all you guys in your 40's and 50's , "we had fun growing up" . the closest thing we had to a computer was an ETCH A SKETCH, everybodys sister had an EASY BAKE OVEN , we had TONKA TRUCKS, HOT WHEELS had just came on the market around 69 or 70, in school our grades were E's, G's , F's and U's and no one wanted to bring a bad report card home, we would play in our peddle cars or our RADIO FLYER WAGON all day and never thought about a "drive by" . ill admit i was a lil naughty at school : i would drop my pencil on the floor to get a peek at a girls panties :D , name brand shoes were RED BALL JETS, KEDS & PF FLYERS, saturday morning, i wouldn't miss SUPERMAN or the 3 STOOGES for nothing, sometimes on a saturday night, we could stay out to 10 pm and then watch a FRANKENSTEIN, WOLFMAN or DRACULA movie which is nothing compared to JASON , FREDDIE KRUGGER or MICHEAL MYERS. seems like the generation now a days is violent & got to have expensive name brands and make our generation look like nerds.
