Looking for a good trans shop in near Raleigh or in Eastern NC, I know PTS has a shop here now but do not feel the need to spend $2000 on a trans for a mildly moded GN.

A mildly modded gn will eat stock a trans... You can do it once and get it over with or do it several times and wind up doing it the other way eventually:wink:

Asheboro is 1.5 hrs away from Raleigh and Transmission Specialist is really good. I have had no problems with That shop. Dennis built one for my friends stang (powerglide) and it has not missed a beat. Also, he has built one or 2 c4's for me in the past. He is very reasonable. Also, we used a greg slack stall in my friends car and mine as well.

BIG difference between a PG/C4/C6/TH-400, etc. Plenty of people can make those live. Only a few can make the 2004r live under higher HP in our cars. Janis Transmission in Akron, Ohio has done them all for me, approx. 20+ units over the years. For under $1k he can rebuild your 2004r into a quality street/strip unit that will handle low 11's and faster (no billet parts). With the billet parts the price goes up substancially.

I've had a bad expierience with an expensive 2004R that I managed having to replace after 6 months of soft shifts and slippage. I don't want to go through that again, then again I don't think it is necessary to drop 2K on the tranny for a car that gets driven 1-2 times a month. I'd like local because my last tranny I burnt up the builder would not honor the warranty because me and my buds installed it, none of us were ASE certified. That being said I'd like to drop the car off, and pick it up, no hassels, no BS...

I spent a large chunk of change on my first GN when I replaced the Trans, I bought a unit directly from TCI. It was called the Lord Vader Special tranny specifically built for the GN or some BS...It came complete with bulletproof case, diamond hardend internals, and Hyper titanium clutches... TCI built the thing and drop shipped it, after I installed it we could never get it to shift right. After a week or so of messing with it, I called their customer service rep. I was told that because I installed it myself that they would not honor the warranty... I then brought it to a shop, they found out after they pulled the thing apart it was NOT the correct valvebody or governor... I also found out their trannys are not "tested" before they ship them out. Being that I'm now 14 years older and this is my 4th Turbo Regal I'm a little wiser, and a bit shrewder....

My trans guy is bringing me 4 down from DE in 2 weeks.
He is picking up 6 trans to take back with him.If you have a matching # trans he can do yours or one of our cores. Give me a call tomorrow I'm heading out for the night.

I'll give you a ring Brian, I'd like to take a ride down to see your new facility... I heard you had to junk allot of your cars from the Pennsy place, I hate that for ya. But real estate and taxes are friendly to the business owners down here...

Sofar so good with my trans i rebuilt it myself about 2 yrs ago and i installed the 521 boost valve with a 10 vane pump and a no yo yo gil younger shift kit along with red alto clutches with a heavy duty band i shimmed the Accumelator. i use the ams oil torque drive syn trans fluid. in the last 7 yrs i have rebuilt the trans 2 and i done them both times. the reason for me having to go back into it i hot-lapped the car when i was tunning my FAST system in and i got the trans got and it got the second gear band hot and it started slipping @ wot.

So i put heavier duty clutches and band into it this go around.

I understand your frustration with the trans. I've had many rebuilds, bought one that was built by Mike Kurtz, had it rebuilt etc. It gets really expensive and frustrating. 1 1/2 years ago I said F-it and bought the competition full billet trans from PTS. If I would have done that a long time ago I'd be much farther ahead with my cash. It was always $1000, $800, $800, $800, $800 etc.
I'd check out PTS or Brian (although I don't know him). He's always got a nice trans for sale.
Invest now and don't look back.

Wow!! I don't understand how anyone can have "frustrating" tranny issues. It's plain and simple...
