The turbo failed the other day. There was internal damage to the compressor wheel and it appears the shaft is broken. (is this a T3 turbo ? its stock.
Question:
1. do you think the debris from the compressor wheel entered the engine or is it stuck in the intercooler.
if the debris is trapped in the intercoooler, is it possible to flush it out.
2. Do you think i may have damaged the engine ? when the turbo failed we lost alot of oil, i stopped several times on the way home to add oil about 3 gallons (yes 3 gallons over several stops) of oil for a 6 mile trip.
What would i look for (engine damage).
I plan on replacing the turbo with another stock (this is what blew). Maybe get a cartridge kit and replace it myself. Ideas on this are appreciated. and vendors.
I know i have to flush the motor several times with oil to remove any debris that may have(likey have) drained back into the oil pan.
Anything else that i should look at while the car is down for repairs.
87 Buick T-Type, stock motor, and stock turbo.
Thank you .
