There are a couple more turbos I am looking at before I make my move.

The TE44 or the PT61.

Can a turbo shield be placed on these to keep the appearance somewhat stock?

I have my stock turbo shield on over my TE-44. I did have to modify the side of the shield when I installed my THDP though.

Stock shield fits great with a TE-61, even with my new .85 turbine housing. Go BIG with your turbo! Get one two steps bigger than you think you need. Boost is very addictive! You will get hooked on it. I get great spoolup with a te-61, too much, so i bought a larger housing to slow down spoolup, can you believe that? Stock motor, 1.54 60', and more to get later.
