what causes turbo to seize up

i have a te44 from precision that just froze up--- car had been having a weird missing as i accelerated at only 6-7 lbs of boost- i changed all the normal stuff chasing the miss -- today i couldnt get any boost--checked and found compressor completely froze

clogged or leaking oil feed line to the turbo?

Lack of oil is the only thing I can think of.

I had a TE45a freez up on me ,When I sent it to get fixed they asked if I blew a head gasket.The car did blow a head gasket and they said it was all rusted up and thats what caused it .

alittle follow up--i took the turbo off and when i checked it on the bench it spun freely---it has no play in the shaft and looks like new--none of the blades are damaged---put it back on the car and it runs great --anyone every hear of this
