what size socket to remove oil sending unit on motor

i am installing an oil pressure gauge in my car and would like to know what size socket i need to remove the original oil sending unit from the motor. i dont have a socket that large and would like to know so i can buy the correct size. thanks.

The socket is a 1 1/16" socket you will need one that is made for the sending unit. You can get one from any auto parts store.

I made 3 trips to Auto Zone, buying different sized sockets, before I asked them what would fit the oil sending unit. They said they had a special socket, but they were out of it and sent me to the other store, where they had one. I should have asked first!

I bought mine at Autozone for about $5. You can turn the brass block a little towards the front of the engine (tighten) if you can't put the socket on due to the lower radiator hose. Be careful not to strip the brass block. Don't ask me how I know
