Why is the diff tied to the body and frame?

Why oh why is the differential connected to the body at the top and frame at the bottom so the body is jerked around everytime it shifts?

Is there some unknown cosmic reason for this?

It's not. It's connected to the frame on top and bottom..

On the TOP it's connected to the upper frame x-member, it's all welded together.
