Wideband bung depth

Switching over to my RJC downpipe this week. Ordered a new bung to weld on and just noticed after removing the turbo and elbow that the original bung from Innovate is a lot longer. The sensor doesn't even extend into the pipe. Seems odd that it's not in the flow of the exhaust. Should I cut off and reuse the original or use the new one that is about half the length and puts the sensor into the pipe farther. Don't want to overheat the sensor like I've read. But also want to have accurate reading.

The bung that comes from innovative will best protect the sensor. When fully threaded, the sensor’s tip will sit flush with the exhaust pipe, this does not effect the readings.

If you can live with mild steel, get a spark plug anti-fouler and drill it out to 1/2. It's the same 18mm thread as an O2 sensor.
