Last time at the range, I shot a friends match grade 1911 45. I liked it, but the grip panel was a little too thick for me and I have small hands. You really can't beat the price for RI. I have not shot a RI 1911 9mm.
I have a Rock Island 1911A1 it would be equivalent to a compact carry, shoots great for being a lower dollar gun. I really like it, it doesn't get as much range time as my Sig but I carry the .45 more often, pic with hogue grip.... Edit, just noticed if you do not use the Stock or an Armscorp magazine it will have the slight overhang as seen in the photo.... Just a tad longer, no issues in function or shoot ability.
I paid no more than 600 for it new ...I use it as a every day if it gets scratch oh well ...
I got my nice 1911s one being a colt 38 super an a Springfield 45 but let me tell you this rock Island shoots like any other just change the mag highly suggest it
No need to spend a grand for a nice 1911. I need to add a few pics. Since I started this thread I have sold the 9mm RIA and bought two more. RIA 1911 .45 and a compact RIA 1911 .45. And spent less than 500 each.
