My 87 GN just had a new engine installed along with a 3200 stall converter , new high friction clutch packs and the governor tweaked to give higher shift points under full throttle . Before this the car shifted normally , now it shifts great 1-2 and 2-3 but revs to almost 4000 rpm before it...
I just got a reply from Valvoline tech group re Dextron VI . I had asked about its use in my 87 GN street 500hp with 200-4R

So what percent of big rod end should be used for an 87 Gn 3.8 when changing to forged crank and internal balance for a street/strip car
I've seen 36.6 to 52 % . When do you use one or the other ?
So now I have to find Federal Mogul 107M 0.001 oversize bearings . Anyone got a good source . I've not had much luck looking on the net
Or - I have contacted Federal Mogul and asked if the #3 and #4 journal bearing top halves can be mixed and matched which would also solve my problem since...
87 3.8 rebuild to about 600 hp with the parts
I have 0.0015 to 0.0029 for miked main clearances using Federal Mogul 107 bearing set
The car is a street/strip , mostly street
So if the numbers need changing - - how ?
Anyone know of an electric oil pump that can be turned on/off from in the car .I'd like to use it to pre-oil the engine before start-up and to circulate oil thru the turbo after shut-down on 87 GN
On 109 block rebuild with forged crank and K1 rods , would 15 thous be too much side clearance on a rod ?
I know 10 is the recommended but I can't see more being a problem as one would think the 2 thous bearing clearance would be the controlling factor on oil pressure ; but before this goes...
What shifter will work in stock console [ I don't want to cut up my original console in my 87 GN ]
I'd like the look of the Hurst manual sticks with the white ball handle . The stock stick/handle look a little too civilized to me . I'd also like it to give controlled manual shifts . Tks
Battery not charging . Alternator checked out ok . Terminals look tight and clean . Battery will take good external charge - just not when running in car .
Maybe a fused link ? What size and where is it located ?Any other suggestions . Tks
When rebuilding stock block 87 GN for street use , what brand hi-volume oil pump is recommended ? Any changes needed to the timing cover ?
Also , what seems to be the best quality bearings these days ?

Anyone got a Hooker catback system for 87 GN . Must be in excellent shape , 2 1/2" , exit behind the wheels in stock location and have the Aero chamber mufflers . They would be going to Maine
