It is a lockup style with that input shaft, the stator splines being missing will cause it to dog off the line because the stator can't be held by the sprag so you don't get your higher stall speeds (even a stock TC needs the stator held to get whatever the stall speed is rated at, or it will be...- Larry J

Before you pull anything apart, check all the things mentioned and make sure you know where the problem is. I don't know how much of your own work you do but having an expert do the repairs or at least the more delicate parts of repairs and maybe the diagnostics could save you time and money if...- Larry J

Good point, he can completely disconnect a cooler line too, and see if it pumps fluid out when the engine starts. Put a hose on both ends and into a can to watch the flow, the above are all true, if no pumping it could be convertor out too far, or pump blew up on startup if no clearance, or no...- Larry J

How much fluid is in it? They hold about 8 quarts or less with a small convertor. I expect you looked at the driveshaft to see if it moves, if not do so. Holding the brakes at full throttle will overheat the trans pretty quick if done for too long, that's if the tires don't spin and you have to back off the gas. Some guys find if they hold the RPM just below when the tires turn they run faster, some don't give any preload at all, it depends on...- Larry J

Being a 4X4 it could be something in the trans or transfercase, like a shift fork or converter, or pump problem. But if your doing it yourself you should check stuff like bellhousing and transfercase bolts first. Then you should use a stethoscope to "try" and further diagnose before you pull...- Larry J

Trans slip issue
It sounds like there might be some contamination in the fluid. The valves have thousenths, or tenth of thousenths clearance and it doesn't take more than a few pieces to stick them. That can cause shift valves or pressure valves to jam. You should take it back to whoever did it last if it was...- Larry J

Floored the gas, and didnt go anywhere!...
Why don't you have someone install a permanent fuel pressure guage. I have used one for years and my car isn't turboed yet. I found it saved me a motor once in the quarter mile when it ran low on fuel pressure just at the end of the track. It's cheap insurance. Larry J- Larry J
