    Catalytic converter needed

To clarify, no "direct fit" and Calif CARB compliant., but seems various "universal fit" converters are available. I'm just starting to dig into the cat converter issues in CA. Dont know what will pass both the tailpipe test and satisfy the fascist state bureaucracy

    Catalytic converter needed

Unfortunately, "Not for sale in California, Colorado or New York" and no CA "EO" is available. CA is impossible to deal with , for a car enthusiast. I can't find any Calif CARB-approved converters at magnaflow. I think nearly every Turbo Buick owner has left Calif. In the metropolitan...

Paint shop recommendation in Los Angeles metroplitan area?

Seeking suggestions on a quality paint shop for my 87 GN garage queen ... a shop that knows the meaning of "schedule" and "commitment" -- none of this "6 months to paint" or "car sat for 3 weeks" stuff! Up to 100 mile or so radius, OK to include Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside...

    What's FRAM's oil filter# = AC PF52

Baldwin filters ... ... are a very high quality & rugged alternative to nearly every "street" or "retail" filter. Thick heavy shell, high pressure ratings, and typically flawless anti-drainback valve. I don't see any reason to switch away from Baldwin. Reference...

    gm engine top cleaner

Where the header/turbo meet is "pre-turbo". The stock O2 sensor is also within a few inches of that location. Depending on severity, Leaks there may: 1) degrade turbo spool-up responsiveness 2) aspirate ambient air into the header, and upset the O2 reading.

    General disk brake servicing questions

I don't normally do front disk brake servicing, so I have some very basic "newbie" questions. The questions are general enough, that even though it's specifically for my chevy blazer SUV, it should still be relevant for TRs, and not off-topic. 1) new brake rotor - surface finish. When...

Which 22-23 inch wide screen monitor do you have and do you like it?

Accurate color rendition was very important to me when I bought an LCD couple years ago. (notice I said "accurate", and not "looks good" -- a big difference!). After researching the subject, narrowed down to the Apple Cinema display and Samsung ... finally deciding not to pay the substantially...

removing door panels on 87 GN

I'm thinking to remove the interior door panels on my 87 (re-lube window mechanism, rustproof door skins, etc), and I've never attempted this before. Other than the instructions in the Fisher Body service manual, are there any tips on how to best remove & reinstall the door panels?? What...

Stock coating on inake,TB,and Valve covers

Depending on how "exact" your restoration is, you may also consider a modern clearcoat applied over freshly cleaned or bead-blasted aluminum. Bare aluminum oxidizes, discolors, and soaks up stains. A clearcoat would go a long way toward preventing that. Some clears can be applied low gloss.

Cleaning out the oil cooler between engine builds

We agree on the main point, Don, namely that it's best if coolers are replaced or bypassed , if there has been any chance of "shrapnel" getting inside the cooler.
