I bought a 85 GN as a restore and it had no alternator in it when I bought it. So I purchased a power master chrome alternator snd installed it.
The only 2 wires that were there to connect too were a red led from the battery and another red wire that was spliced to a black wire coming out from under the coil pack area.
I know the battery led is correct but when I attached this other wire to the hot led the volts light on the dash came on and stood on even with the engine off, So I figured maybe its a ground, I grounded it and the volt light seemed to worked work the way it should so I left it grounded.
Yesterday was the first day I got the car running. When I tested voltage I only got 11.68 volts from ground to the back of the alternator. Figuring maybe the altenator was bad, I brought it back to the store for testing. It tested at 14.5 volts when they tested it.
I explained my situation and they told me there has to be a plug in the connector at the top of the alternator that feeds the regulator inside. Is this correct? If so what are the wires that are supposed to feed that connector? Is there one or just two? The only one I can find is the black wire that comes out from under the power coil. I see no others.
Thanks guys!
