1st gear only? what did I break?

Took the car out today and noticed a bunch of KR (50degrees) ran it a few time under WOT and still got between 15-50 degrees of KR. I thought it might be the tranny, so I slipped it into 1st and manually shifted into second. I come to a stop and proceed to go again and wont come out of first gear I stopped again and put it into 2nd gear and it is still stuck in 1st. Even in od it is still stuck in 1st.

What could this one be?

Sounds like the popular govenor spring problem,Make sure the cable is not binding up(pull on the end and it should spring back)
If ok, Drop the pan,In the rear of the trans there is a cover with 4 13mm bolts pull it off,The govenor should come with it,See if the govenor spring (it will be obvious if its there) is in it.You may find it in the pan as soon as you drop it though.

pulled on cable and didnt seem to have binding. Pulled governor out and I have one blue spring the size of a pen spring.Fluid seems good and no chunks of anything in the filter or pan. Just usual clutch wear.

Throttle valve in the VB could be stuck,Valve body would have to be removed to inspect

update

It shifts from 1st to 3rd at 3k rpm @25mph. and into OD at 3k also.

This seems really weird.

I removed the TV cable on the throttle bracket and put car into reverse holding the brake. Then pulled the TV cable several times.

I inspected the filter and in between the fiber filters had a few bigger pieces ,but nothing that seemed fresh from breakage.

Lemme know what you think.

Talked to a tranny guy and he tells me that if I dont have 2nd gear while manually shifting .....it will never return. DEATH TO TRANNY????

Sounds like the 2nd gear "Band" is toast. That was my results on my first trans failure.

Yes ,if it goes from 1-3 most likely the band is burnt and or broken
