ok, i tried using some 110 octane leaded gas. i had about a half gallon of 93 left in my tank. and i added about 2 gallons of 110. i was running 17psi of boost. first run i go from a dead stop and it pulls real hard and i stop at about 70. my boost was alot more even with the 110 it stayed at 17psi. with regular gas, my boost would jump all over the place. my knock was 1.6 and went away. my o2 mv's were at 850, which i know is really high. i would get 6-8 knock with 93 octane. second run i get 2.3 knock and 865 o2. third run i did a 20 punch and got 0 knock and 769 o2. on my way home to fill up more gas and turn the boost up a little, i do a 30 punch, i floored it and i heard a loud pop from the motor. so i let out real quick. the scanmaster said 865 o2 and 0 knock. now i am scared to get on it. what could have caused this? i remember it doing that one time before a while back but i thought it was from knock. thanks for the help

Sounds like you could be getting a rich pop if you 02's are in the 860 range. Remember the scanmaster only tells you you lowest 02 #, so that means you were probably in the 870-880 range the entire run. Either turn up the boost or lower your fuel pressure. Also if your going to run race gas, try to run str8 race gase instead of mixing, that way it is easier to figure out how much octane you need to run the amount of boost you want instead of guessing how much actual octane you have.

Good luck,
Alex

well im running a thrasher chip and its supposed to have 45psi fp. it was made to run 17psi so i dont understand why i always have 869 range of o2 mv. ill try turning the boost up a little more. i dont get why on a street chip that it runs so rich unless its over 20 lbs of boost? with pump gas its either too rich(low boost) or too much knock(high boost). maybe i need to buy a new chip?

Your O2 sensor might be getting lazy already. The sensor will slow down and not transition very much, causes the car to pop and eventually run like crap. I've found that even heated O2's will not last very long at all with leaded fuel. Only took about 10 gallons of 110 to wipe out my last 4 wire GM O2.

However, have heard from lots of folks on the board that they can run several months on leaded fuel before the sensor dives. Some are better lived than others I suppose.

Are you sure you didn't blow your up pipe hose loose? Make sure it's clamped on good!

Hi, did I read you right saying you has a half gallon left and you added 2 gallons?? to your tank for a total of 2.5 gallons, if so not
enough fuel in the tank, that could be a lean pop from not enough fuel not from running rich, Ron

i dont know, the scanmaster said i was running way rich and 0 knock when it popped. my gas gauge said i had plenty left. i checked all my clamps and they are good and tight. ive only ran 2 gallons of 110 total in the life of my car so i dont think the o2 sensor is bad. i turned up the boost a little and im going to try it again tonight after i get out of school. ive got 4 more gallons of race gas left, that stuff is 4 dollars a gallon here:eek:. i wish i could run 17psi without it but i get too much knock and my o2s are way too high.

I wouldn't get on it unless I had at least 1/2 of a tank. Some people say 1/3 of a tank. I just go with 1/2 to make sure.

knock

Being way too rich can blow a headgasket too.Tune your way up slowly.I am running 110 leaded all the time now.I went to a parts store that a friend owns.I bought a heated 02 sensor for a 95 Mustang. It was an off brand but made by a well know company.I have run 40 gallons of gas through it and it is still doing fine.I have been using a trick told to me by another member. He said before I start my car to turn the key on for at least 30 seconds. This lets the heated 02 get heated up and the lead will nor stick to it so fast.Bruce

i filled my tank up half way with 110 and i didnt even get to 3/4 throttle before it popped again. i turned the wg up a few turns. the scanmaster didnt even pick it up. the o2 #s looked like they
were climbing to the same spot again. i dont know what else to
look at.

You might have a coil pack/ignition module problem under load.
Plug wires?
MAF?

Quite a few things could be causing the popping. Lower your fuel pressure a little(maybe to 42psi vac off) and see if it makes a difference. Just because Thrasher chips are supposed to be a 45psi vac off, doesn't mean your car likes that much pressure.
My car runs like a turd with pressure that high, I have mine at 39psi to compensate.
Just a thought...........
