I just bought a 2004r tranny for a mild cam 455 to go into a 71 cutlass conv't and need to know where to hook the 12 volt wire to. The trans is out of an 86 BOP. Also I would like to know thoughts on installing the tranny cooler. I heard that splicing into the radiator lines just adds more heat than just using a seperate cooler. THANKS!

Its best to use a switched 12 volt source. On your fuse panel is a switched source called "IGN" just use a female electrical connector to get switched 12 volt power. Turns ON when the key is turned on.
With the cooler, it depends. If the car is driven year round in cooler climates, IMHO it would be best to use both coolers, the one in the rad and an extra external cooler. Outlet from rad cooler to inlet of external cooler, then outlet of external cooler to inlet on tranny.
In a hot climate, some prefer to just run the external cooler. I do suggest an external cooler, especially if your torque convertor is anything above stock stall speed.

By the way, I have a 71 442, with the 455. Mine is a restored numbers matching convertable. I still need a new or rebuilt TicTocTack for my dash.
