on my 87t i have a ta49, 3.5dp,36blutops,smc alky, with the usual fuel system up grades i still have the original d5 conv....i just got a 2800 stall is it worth putting in will it be a nice inprovement......will it improve the fun factor:biggrin: thanks for all input

Is it a d5 restalled or an aftermarket brand? If so what diameter is it?

A restalled d5 will help for sure. Cant hurt anything with that one...

this is an after market i dont know whos the maker its the same size as the d5 stock.a friend of mine had it installed in his buick at a local trans shop he removed it to go to a 3200 i tried calling that shop but they are out of buissnes they were not a performance shop.just wondering if its worth the effort of installing it or should i just keep my D5 thanks gil

If its a 2800 for sure then it wont hurt. If you know your friend well and know the history on the converter then go with it as long as he didnt shred his tranny with that converter installed in his car.

i would try it but watch how much boost you build at the line because a 12 inch cannot be stalled at 2800 to 3000 without bending the fins to the max. i went thru 2 converters in one season because of this so i went with a 10 inch 3200 and it is night and day compared to the 12 inch

well i dont really race it per say,its more of a street car but i do get into it but not like you would at the track building boost at the line.since i have the ta49 i wonder if it will wake the car up a bit:biggrin:

I'd find out exactly what it is and sell it, 12" converters are not even worth pulling the trans and swapping IMO. Put the money towards a Precision or PTC and then see what a real converter can do to those rear tires. :D

I have a 2800 PTC and it is incredible. Like GNVYUS said, I just can't keep tire under it now!
