51 vs 44 ????

Is there anyone who has ran both of these turbo's on there TR and if so was there any difference in performance?? does one or the other spool better and which one has better top end performance?? and I know about the 51 failures Thanks in advance!
 
They have the same compressor, but the turbine side flows more on a 51. What this does is move the torque curve to the right. To spool a 51 you'll need more RPM than a D5 torque converter can provide (2400). The 51 will make a little more peak hp but will give up some area under the curve (from 2400 to 2800 rpm)

The actual performance difference when both turbos are maxxed out would likely be less than a .15 of a second, and this is only after the 51 is equipped with a higher than stock stall converter.

I would bet money a stock motor TE51 car is not as quick in the 1/4 as the same car with a TE44, if a stock D5 is used.
