on my 84 i just bought about a month ago, it has an adjustable waste gate. I Think. the rod goes from the actuator to the lever and has a nut that when loosened alows the rod to be extended and retracted i just have been tinkerin with it makin sure if i do somthing i know how to put it back the way it was. the car runs great and ran great from day one. I want it to be quicker. right now im scared to take on the little honda ****ics and muststanks on the street for fear of humliliation. Im on a REALLY tight budget and lookin for ways to adjust what i got and spend VERY little money. When it get on the gas the light in the dash comes on,What psi activates the light on the 84? Dont have a boost gauge YET but soon. the car seems to hesitate in 1st to 2nd when i get on it from a stand still. ??. During my MD state inspection one mech told me there was an air leak. It passed insp but i think im loosin power there. its where the header meets the up pipe. is there a gasket that goes there. if so where can i find one or will that MAKE A GASKET work? your replies are greatly appreciated.

"where the header meets the up pipe" dpesn't have a gasket. Its suppose to be a collector with a sort of built-in-doughnut-gasket on it(best way i can describe) you just have to make sure its tighened, I stripped one of mine and had to put a nut behind it.

As far as "the light" on the dash I'm not sure what you are talking about. If you mean the lights on the stock boost guage, that will come on once the motor starts making boost, its suppose to guage it, but its not very accurate. my wastegate was like yours, with the full adjustment it only went to 8psi, I took it off and tapped it another 2 inches (way more than enough) and slowly increased it untill i get 14psi now. you don't want to increase boost untill you can increase fuel pressure with it.
hope it helps, I love my car...they are great

Use Permatex Ultra Copper gasket goop on that connection. The up-pipe bolts up real tight - then leave it overnight to dry.

After that - start her up and presto !
Sealed.
