Newbie here seems like a nice forum. Would like yo know what to do first. 125k on chassis & block. Needs paint, but would like to focus on performance stuff. What do I need to do first, go intercooled or not??? I see alot of you guys doing 87' ECM's, beneficial??

Welcome. If you are in it for the long haul, I would recommend in order:
1. Get a scantool
2. Do everything they say; The Grand National / T-Type / Turbo Regal Buick Spring Cleaning Guide
3. Question everything on and claimed to "be done" on the car!
4. Read EVERYTHING about these cars.
5. Establish a realistic performance goal and post for advice.

I would caution with advice from IC crowd.
The IC crowd is VERY knowledable, but the HA is just different.
The HA cars have some quirks that for some reason do not follow similar logic in the IC world.

If you would like to have an IC'd car, sell the car and get an 86-87.
You will be happier in the long run.

...and if you happen to decide to go to an intercooled call, pm me when you're going to sell yours

so I don't understand???? Why is it not good to go with IC and how is nonIC car any different than IC car?????? I thought this would be the best thing for this car????

Let me clarify the statement and viewpoint.
A mechanical IC is an awesome piece of equipment. In general terms, it is worth a LOT of HP over a Non IC set-up. Getting charge temps down from 350F to 150F is worth something.

Converting a Hot Air to an IC set-up is fairly simple (based on skill level and equipment availability). It is just that most "HA Purist" like to see HA set-ups stay "HA" mainly due to it's rarity (Just go to shows/meets and observe the number of HA vs IC cars), plus, we like being the underdog .

It is my opinion that the need for IC conversion really comes down to your goals. In the end (Like the 1000 other threads on this subject  ), it is your car and, it goes without saying, you can do as you please.

Jerryl- Well said- I will be dead before anybody cuts up my car and puts an intercooler on it. My goals have been met. You are also correct about car shows- Nobody knows what a Hot Air is . Take care and hopefully you knock sensor is working right. If you ever need help get in touch. Brad
